Preparedness Balm was originally developed by Dr. Max Barlow. We have been making it for decades! Preparedness Balm is a topical skin salve that can be used to promote healing for deep skin wounds, skin infections, rashes or dry cracked skin.
Most of our salves have Chaparral in them but this is the only one with a petroleum jelly base. Believe it or not, petroleum jelly can have it’s place in your home!
Preparedness Balm is a topical skin salve used for treating any type of skin wounds, skin infections, rashes or dry cracked skin. Infusing chaparral infused in a petroleum jelly base discourages moisture from entering the wound and gives the herb time to do it’s magic! Use for cuts, scrapes, spider bites and infected skin wounds. This is a great option for deep, infected skin wounds that need a waterproof base. This product also has a very long shelf life and is great for your emergency essential kits.

I seriously love this salve! I developed a strange rash after hiking one day. I thought it was my shirt rubbing my arm wrong, but when I looked, I had some pretty good welts that really stung. I got out my Protection salve and rubbed it liberally over the area. It instantly stopped stinging. This happened two days ago and putting the salve on morning and night has made the healing process super easy and painless. I recommend keeping a jar in your car for just these moments. I have been using this for something called slugging which is usually done with Vaseline/petroleum jelly. I like it for the extra anti bacterial properties and moisturization. A little goes a long way. I found it also helps with cystic acne!

I use this for just about everything from open wounds and especially burns! The product is so good that I ordered the Pet version for my Daughter’s little doggies. I also have the Golden salve that I use for dry chapped lips. Just ordered the Heels salve hope it works as well on my feet. Thank you Jane

I got a huge cold sore a few months ago after getting sick with a common cold. My lower lip was so swollen and I could feel that it was going to be a big and painful outbreak. I have been using Barlow Herbal products for years with great success so I decided to try some Preparedness Balm on my lip and oh my goodness!! I have never had a cold sore heal so quickly. The swelling went completely down after about 3 applications THAT DAY and it was COMPLETELY healed after only 6 days of application. Usually a cold sore of that size and swelling lasts for 2 weeks or more! Although I was amazed, I was not surprised! Jane’s products have been a life saver on many occasions and I just couldn’t believe I didn’t think to use it sooner!

My daughter got a pretty bad scratch on her face from the cat. I put the Original Salve on it and in the morning we could not even see where she was scratched.

This salve is only LDM in petroleum jelly – it is sticky, thick and tacky on my skin. A much preferred salve would be the Natural which is in a considerably more comfortable base of oils.

I love my Golden Salve. It’s a must-have in my bathroom and in my purse or when traveling. I use it for anything skin related – cuts, bug bites, blisters, rashes, fungus issues, and it has always helped speed up the healing process. It’s a staple for me, and I often recommend it to my family and friends.

First of all I love this company and the immediate welcome I felt with my first purchases! ! I wish I had found these products years ago but, better late than never as “they say!†So, it’s hard to pick my favorite product but, the Golden salve original has literally & unbelievably transformed my feet from dry, scaly, horrible feet where nothing and I mean nothing for 20 plus years has ever gotten them soft or rid them of painful cracks I felt hopeless and had literally given up on ever having “ normal ‘ looking feet again. I’m a shoe person and it really bothered me to spend so much time on my feet trying to make them look great and nothing ever worked in fact you would have never guessed I spent time on them every day! I bought this jar to try it for anything in general as my skin is dry living in the desert climate not knowing if it had any benefit for feet problems and with in two weeks my feet are literally like my feet when I was a young girl! I only put a bit on once a day before bed I don’t even wear socks and they are so smooth, pink, soft, & healthy! When they started healing I kept thinking that they would eventually go back to cracking etc like I was used to. And, I still walk bare foot on my tile floor etc and they never crack any more! I wouldn’t be without this stuff ever! I often remark to my husband that I should have taken a before and after picture of my feet with Golden Salve use! It’s unbelievable!
