The Story Behind BrainGlow
One of the things I enjoy most about creating herbal formulas is that every blend tells a story.
Some begin with a single remarkable herb.
Others begin with a question.
Brain Glow has been around for about 12 years and has become one of our most treasured formulas. When I started researching it all those years ago, the question was this:
How do you support the brain the way nature does, not with one herb, but with several herbs that each contribute something unique?
When I first sat down to formulate Brain Glow, I wasn't just thinking about herbs, I was thinking about the countless conversations I'd had with my dad over the years. He approached herbal medicine like putting together a puzzle. Every plant had its own strengths, but the real magic happened when each piece fit together with purpose.
That philosophy was my main inspiration when I created Brain Glow.
I wasn't looking for the "best" brain herb. I was looking for the right combination of herbs.
To me, supporting cognitive wellness has never been about chasing a quick boost. I wanted to create a formula that reflected the way traditional herbalists have worked for generations, supporting healthy circulation, nourishing the nervous system, helping the body adapt to everyday stress, and bringing those pieces together in one thoughtfully balanced blend. I also wanted something with no stimulants or caffiene.
As I began building the formula, I gathered a comprehensive list of all the herbs that affected brain health. Not just from my own knowledge and what my dad taught me, but the rabbit hole of information that exists out there!
I started with Ginkgo Biloba, one of my favorite brain herbs and one of the world's most respected herbs for supporting healthy circulation and oxygenation to the brain. From there, I added Periwinkle as another traditional herb for cerebral circulation.
Next came Water Hyssop (Bacopa) and Gotu Kola, two herbs that have been treasured for centuries for supporting memory, learning, focus, and a healthy nervous system. Both are truly magical.
But I knew the formula still wasn't complete.
From lots of personal experience I know that life has a way of affecting our ability to think clearly. Stress, long days, and mental fatigue all play a role, so I knew it would be important to add some adaptogens. I brought in Ashwagandha to help support the body's response to everyday stress, along with Chinese Ginseng for vitality and Schisandra Berry for resilience.
Finally, I added Skullcap. To me, it was the herb that brought the whole formula into balance. Instead of creating a blend that simply tried to "boost" the brain, I wanted one that also supported a calm, steady nervous system.
When I stepped back and looked at the finished formula, it's amazing how each herb had its own job.
No two were there for exactly the same reason.
Together, they created something much more complete than any one of them could have accomplished on its own.
That's the art of traditional herbal formulation.
Several years after introducing Brain Glow, I was introduced to another remarkable gift from Mother Nature in the form of Lion's Mane mushroom.
As I learned more about its long history of traditional use and began following the emerging research surrounding it, I realized that Lion's Mane complemented Brain Glow beautifully.
Interestingly, I never considered reformulating Brain Glow to include Lion's Mane.
To me, Brain Glow was already complete.
Lion's Mane wasn't there to replace anything or fill a gap. It brought something entirely different to the table. The most impressive is that it stimulates NGF (Nerve Growth Factor) which is a naturally occurring protein in the body that helps support the growth, maintenance, and survival of nerve cells.
That's when it clicked.
These weren't competing products.
They were partners.
Sometimes the best results come from bringing together natural partners that complement one another without trying to do the same job.
As I continue sharing the stories behind these blends, my hope is that you'll not only learn about the herbs themselves, but also about the thought that goes into combining them. Good herbal formulas aren't just collections of good herbs, they're carefully chosen plants that complement one another, each contributing something unique to the whole.
